My father was a Maslen and his father appears to be in Hove in 1900, probably born in Wiston, with earlier Maslens coming from Wiltshire. His mother was a Dale from either Wiston or Henfield.
My mother was a Carpenter and grandfather Carpenter seems to be from Littlehampton and his father from Dover. My maternal grandmother's birth certificate gives her name as Alice Mary Budd, but when she married, 13th August 1899 at St Andrews Church Portslade, the name was Alice Mary Savage (spinster)! Was she adopted?
I believe she was related to Savage, Portslade 1901 census. However, the fathers name appears different and Elizabeth Savage had a middle name of Victoria, while the "Ancestry" site gives the name at about the right age with a middle initial of H?
If anybody can provide me with information about these families I would be very grateful.
James Maslen, Membership number 11189.
