BRIGHTON PAUPERS

SFH Vol 9 No 5 March 1991
Sometimes family history documents turn up in the most unlikely places and when you are least expecting them. Recently, I found a list of those receiving out-relief from Eastbourne workhouse in 1831 (see SFH Vol 8 Nos 4 & 5). It was while continuing this research into the 19th century Poor Law that I unearthed a similar document for Brighton. The original details of an 1847 parliamentary report had been republished in "The Poor Law Volume 20, The British Parliamentary Papers" (1970) pp97-8. It relates to 1846.
